Interesting beer. I'll admit. I bought this for the label.
It's a lot heavier than I thought it was going to be, interestingly. Blond, for me, because I'm an American, conjures up a vision of a crystal clear light ale with a slight fruity overtone and maybe a nice tint of hops.
This, listed as "Belgian Beer" on the label, is a more cloudy (of course) orangish kind of color. Definitely a nice golden hue, but not what I would have thought of as blond (not that it's wrong). The head on the pour was fantastic and is still persistant now, almost 8 or 10 minutes later. It was thick and plush and now leaves nice thick trails on the side of my glass. Wonderful.
The flavor starts off a little weak and then sort of grows into itself as the sip continues. It starts almost a little bitter and then has as sweetness wash over the middle of the sip as the beer passes over your tongue evoking thoughts of oranges before settling back into that same bitterness on the end. It feels a lot more like orange zest, now.
Absolutely not an unpleasant beer, and it would probably be quite refreshing on a nice warm spring afternoon, but I'd wonder at buying it as more than an occasional novelty if the price in my neck of the woods (~$3.00 for an 11.2 fl oz bottle) is comparable to others.
