ClintonReview - 'The Venture Bros.'
by Clinton

Now, if you haven't taken a look at this gem on AdultSwim, you have some catching up to do. 'The Venture Bros.' has just finished it's second season, and I am desperately awaiting the next season of this twisted, hilarious cartoon.

So, a brief word for those of you who have not seen this show. The show focuses on Dean and Hank Venture, two brothers, who are raised by their Not-Quite-The-Mad-Scientist-His-Father-Was father Dr. Thaddeus Venture, his bodyguard Brock Samson *voiced by Patrick Warburton), and their house robot H.E.L.P.e.R. They are often plagued by the Venture's self-proclaimed arch nemesis, The Monarch. The Monarch (as in Monarch Butterfly) has a legion of henchman who are managed by the incomparable Doctor Girlfriend. And that my friends, is a very gross simplification of what's going on in this zany cartoon romp. I really don't want to spoil all of the suprises that this show throws at you. The number of characters on this show is astounding and they are all extremely unique, quirky, and memorable.

This show draws heavily on such classic cartoons as 'Johnny Quest', 'Scooby Doo', and 'The Challenge of the Superfriends'. Anyone who considers themselves a connoisseur of cartoons or comics will find plenty of references and parody throughout. Perhaps I'm preaching to the choir, but if I can help sway one of you to give this show a chance, then at least I'll know my first article on here is not for, um, naught.

A note on the Season 1 DVD. This contains one of the funniest and strangest special features that I have yet to come across. The voice actors for several of the characters dressed up as their character from the show and then were interviewed as those characters. If you enjoy meta-humor, then this special feature is not to be missed.

GO TEAM VENTURE!
